Emily Nachison

Emily Nachison, born in San Diego, California, received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2006 and a MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2010. Nachison creates mixed-media sculpture that pulls from the disparate, yet conjoined, histories of science and mysticism. Predominantly comprised of cast glass and natural materials such as leather and hair, the sculptures and installations reference the practice of mytholigization as a means of explaining natural phenomena and wish-fulfillment. Recent work uses this as a starting point to explore adolescent fantasy and false promises. Nachison is the Fiber Department Chair and an Assistant Professor at the Oregon College of Art and Craft in Portland, Oregon.
